When you enter the gates of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, you might notice a sign that reads, “We used to launch ships. Now we launch businesses.” Well, we might have to revise that statement in light of the recent “launching” of the USS Levant – the Gingerbread Ship version that it is! This December BLDG 92 partnered with Christopher Sanchez, formerly of Myrtle Ave's Le Petit Bakery, on a third Gingerbread Ship Workshop. Our petite participants learned a bit about ships and shipbuilding in our galleries before christening the ship and decorating ship-shaped cookies to take home. Fun was had by all! The Levant was preceded by the USS Monitor in 2012 and the USS Ohio in 2013. If you missed it this year, join us next year on our next ship.

Seasonal Photography Tours: our first annual Photography Contest

The Brooklyn Navy Yard is a photographer’s dream. Spread out over 300 acres, the Yard boasts architectural evidences of the site’s rich history amid towering examples of its modern industrial rebirth, all set against a backdrop of natural landscapes and waterfront vistas. It is no wonder that many professional photographers have studios in the Yard and that many other amateur photographers, Yard enthusiasts and Instagram geeks have been clamoring to get “behind the fence.”
