Whiskey Wars Factory Tour

SAT DEC 19 2015 > 4:30 p.m.

In the 19th century, Marines were dispatched from the Navy Yard to crack down on illegal whiskey distilling in what became known as the WHISKEY WARS. Today, Kings County Distillery is proudly making moonshine and more on premises. Join BLDG 92 and Kings County Distillery on a tour (and tasting!) that explores whiskey scandals of the past and the resurgence of the industry today.

Brooklyn Navy Yard: Past, Present & Future Tour

For over 150 years, the Brooklyn Navy Yard churned out America's most famous fighting ships, from the USS Maine to the USS Missouri. Today, the Yard is considered a national model for sustainable urban industrial parks. This tour, given in partnership with Turnstile Tours, explores the 300-acre facility and offers opportunities to get off the bus for a closer look at the Yard's most intriguing sites, including a dry dock that's been used since before the Civil War, the 24-acre former Navy hospital campus that is virtually frozen in time and the nation's first multi-story LEED ...

Inside Industry Tour: Interstellar Innovations

Interstellar Innovations visits Final Frontier andHoneybee Robotics. This tour takes visitors from the Yard to moon...almost!...as we visit two businesses actively engaged with space research and exploration. From designing space suits for commercial space travel to innovating technologies for planetary exploration, this tour is quite a trip! Tickets: $20.00

The "Can-Do" Yard: WWII at the Brooklyn Navy Yard

SUN DEC 6 2015 > 11 a.m.

During World War II, the Brooklyn Navy Yard played a pivotal role in the American war effort – it built battleships and aircraft carriers, repaired over 5,000 ships, and sent troops and supplies to fronts across the globe. The tireless efforts of its 70,000 workers earned it the nickname "The Can-Do Yard."  This tour will explore the role of the New York City waterfront in the war effort, make connections between the Yard and famous battles of World War II, and visit historically significant sites within the Yard and in the surrounding communities. Gingerbread Ship Workshop

SAT DEC 5 2015 > noon

Join BLDG 92 for holiday family fun at our Fourth Annual Gingerbread Ship Workshop. Pastry Chef Katie Rosenhouse, with the assistance of her happy helpers, at Brooklyn's own Buttermilk Bakeshop, will create a gingerbread ship model ready for children to decorate and "commission". Participants become ship builders in training as they are led on a mini interactive exhibit tour followed by an arts & crafts based shipbuilding workshop led by an educator from the Brooklyn Historical Society. Each participating child will also receive a gingerbread ship cookie and supplies to decorate.
