For over 150 years, the Brooklyn Navy Yard churned out America's most famous fighting ships, from the USS Maine to the USS Missouri. Whiskey Wars Factory Tour!

In the 19th century, Marines were dispatched from the Navy Yard to crack down on illegal whiskey distilling in what became known as the WHISKEY WARS. Today, Kings County Distillery is proudly making moonshine and more on premises. Plein-Art Painting Meet-Up

SAT SEP 24 2016 > 10 a.m.

Join Brooklyn Navy Yard Visiting Artist, Janice McDonnell, will lead a plein-air meet up session. Participants will take advantage of an exciting opportunity to paint outdoors in the Yard from a vantage point with limited public access, on the rooftop of large industrial building. Artists will have views of Manhattan, the East River, two bridges and the sprawling 300 acre Navy Yard to choose from. This is not class, there is no instruction, it's a meet up of plein-air painters with some experience and their own equipment, easels and supplies. More info:

The Farm on the Roof: Reading & Tour

In The Farm on the Roof, the founding members of the Brooklyn Grange—the world’s largest green rooftop farm—share their inspirational story of changing the world through entrepreneurship. Anastasia Cole Plakias, author and founding member, will read an excerpt from this new book at BLDG 92 and then lead participants on a tour of their farm at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
