Urban Ecology Bike Tour

SUN MAY 21 2017 > 11 a.m.

Discover the natural world in the midst of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, a thriving industrial park. Starting at BLDG 92, this tour led in partnership with Turnstile tours will feature a sedum-plant rooftop, the Brooklyn Grange's rooftop farm and an oyster restoration project. Visitors will learn about rooftop systems, urban farming, and intersections between stormwater mangement, landscape architecture, and marine ecology.

Future Saturdays: Build with Construction Kids - airplanes!

As a child’s creativity grows, they require a broad palate of tools and materials to make things by themselves to learn about the world that surrounds them.  Construction Kids Saturday build is just that.  Children learn how to safely use real tools, how to handle different materials, and build a dynamic project.  Included in each project are the basic tenants of STEAM: planning, exploring options, making repairs, and finishing your work, while fostering self-reliance, problem solving, confidence and creativity.

Inside Industry Tour: Refundry

FRI MAY 19 2017 > 9:30 a.m.

Experience industry in action in the workshops and studios of the Navy Yard. This tour led by Turnstile Tours begins at BLDG 92, which showcases some of the 330+ businesses that call the Yard home.  You will visit Refoundry; a company that trains formerly incarcerated people to repurpose and refurbish discarded materials into unique home furnishings and accessories.

Whiskey Wars Factory Tour!

SUN MAY 14 2017 > 4:30 p.m.

In the 19th century, Marines were dispatched from the Navy Yard to crack down on illegal whiskey distilling in what became known as the WHISKEY WARS. Today, Kings County Distillery is proudly making moonshine and more on premises. Join BLDG 92 and Kings County Distillery on a tour (and tasting!) that explores whiskey scandals of the past and the resurgence of the industry today.
