The "Can Do" Yard: Brooklyn Navy Yard WW II Tour

During World War II, the Brooklyn Navy Yard played a pivotal role in the American war effort – it built battleships and aircraft carriers, repaired over 5,000 ships, and sent troops and supplies to fronts across the globe. The tireless efforts of its 70,000 workers earned it the nickname "The Can-Do Yard."  This tour will explore the role of the New York City waterfront in the war effort, make connections between the Yard and famous battles of World War II, and visit historically significant sites within the Yard and in the surrounding communities. Inside Industry Tour: New Lab

Experience industry in action in the workshops and studios of the navy yard. This tour led by Turnstile Tours begins at BLDG 92, which showcases some of the 330+ businesses that call the Yard home.  Visitors will go behind the scenes at New Lab a community of hardware-centric designers, engineers, and entrepreneurs leveraging advanced technologies to create meaningful new products.

Urban Ecology Bicycle Tour

SUN SEP 17 2017 > 11 a.m.

Discover the natural world in the midst of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, a thriving industrial park. Starting at BLDG 92, this tour led in partnership with Turnstile tours will feature a sedum-plant rooftop, the Brooklyn Grange's rooftop farm and an oyster restoration project. Visitors will learn about rooftop systems, urban farming, and intersections between stormwater mangement, landscape architecture, and marine ecology.

Explore the Navy Yard’s unique architecture and examine the many layers of history visible in the landscape, from Civil War-era machine shops to innovative LEED-Certified structures, and see how these buildings have been adapted for modern manufacturing.

Whiskey Wars Factory Tour!

SAT SEP 30 2017 > 4:30 p.m.

In the 19th century, Marines were dispatched from the Navy Yard to crack down on illegal whiskey distilling in what became known as the WHISKEY WARS. Today, Kings County Distillery is proudly making moonshine and more on premises. Join BLDG 92 and Kings County Distillery on a tour (and tasting!) that explores whiskey scandals of the past and the resurgence of the industry today.

Seasonal Photography Tour - Fall

The Brooklyn Navy Yard is a fascinating visual tapestry of 19th century buildings and LEED-certified structures, of natural landscapes and waterfront vistas amid a thriving industrial park. Starting this fall, Turnstile Tours and BLDG 92 are pleased to offer seasonal photography tours to provide opportunities for the public to come out with their cameras and capture some of the most visually stimulating sites within the Yard. Highlights include the frozen-in-time Navy Hospital Campus, the World War II-era pier with views of the Manhattan skyline and Wallabout Bay, and a functioning dry dock that is used for ship repair.
