Brooklyn Navy Yard by Bus: The Past, Present, & Future of the Yard
In partnership with the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation and the Brooklyn Historical Society, Urban Oyster leads a bus tour replete with fascinating stories of the Brooklyn Navy Yard's past, present, and future. For over 150 years, the Brooklyn Navy Yard churned out America's most famous fighting ships, from the USS Maine to the USS Missouri.Today, the Yard is becoming a model for sustainable urban industrial parks. At several stops along the way, this tour offers opportunities to get off the bus for a closer look at the Yard's most intriguing sites, including a dry dock that's been used since before the Civil War, the 24-acre former Navy hospital campus that is virtually frozen in time, the nation's first multi-story LEED Gold-certified industrial building, and BLDG 92. Length:2 to 2.5 hours.
Admission: $30 per person, $18 per person for the short tour; 10% discount for members of BLDG 92, the Brooklyn Historical Society, the Brooklyn Greenway Initiative, the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum, and the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, as well as tenants and employees of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation. Tickets can be purchased on-site at BLDG 92 but advanced ticket purchase is strongly encouraged.
