Get a “handle” on sustainability at the Brooklyn Navy Yard!  Pedal along with us and explore the Yard’s transition from one of the nation’s foremost naval shipbuilding facilities to a national leader for sustainable urban industrial parks.  On this tour, you’ll learn about many of the yard’s green initiatives, including adaptive reuse of historic structures and materials, alternative energy projects, and sustainable practices in manufacturing employed by some of the yard’s 300 tenants.  The tour will include visits to such sites as the yard’s historic 1851 dry dock (which is still in use for ...

Brooklyn Navy Yard: Past, Present & Future Tour

For over 150 years, the Brooklyn Navy Yard churned out America's most famous fighting ships, from the USS Maine to the USS Missouri. Today, the Yard is considered a national model for sustainable urban industrial parks. This tour, given in partnership with Turnstile Tours, explores the 300-acre facility and offers opportunities to get off the bus for a closer look at the Yard's most intriguing sites, including a dry dock that's been used since before the Civil War, the 24-acre former Navy hospital campus that is virtually frozen in time and the nation's first multi-story LEED ...

Yard Inspectors Tour

Step into the shoes of an inspector in-training and follow clues to uncover maritime treasures of the Brooklyn Navy Yard! Search for tugboats, NYPD fireboats, and barges, see where they get repaired, and participate in a dry dock simulation with a small-scale hands-on model! This Yard-wide adventure is fun for the whole family but especially for families with children ages 5-11. This program is designed to meet the needs of children of all abilities. Urban Ecology Bicycle Tour

SUN JUN 26 2016 > 1 p.m.

Discover the natural world in the midst of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, a thriving industrial park. Starting at BLDG 92, this tour led in partnership with Turnstile tours will feature a sedum-plant rooftop, the Brooklyn Grange's rooftop farm and an oyster restoration project. Visitors will learn about rooftop systems, urban farming, and intersections between stormwater mangement, landscape architecture, and marine ecology.
