Sustainable Architecture & Industry Bike Tour
Get a “handle” on sustainability at the Brooklyn Navy Yard! Pedal along with us and explore the Yard’s transition from one of the nation’s foremost naval shipbuilding facilities to a national leader for sustainable urban industrial parks. On this tour, you’ll learn about many of the yard’s green initiatives, including adaptive reuse of historic structures and materials, alternative energy projects, and sustainable practices in manufacturing employed by some of the yard’s 300 tenants. The tour will include visits to such sites as the yard’s historic 1851 dry dock (which is still in use for ship repair), the nation’s first green multi-story industrial building, and the LEED Platinum-certified Brooklyn Navy Yard Center at BLDG 92. Turnstile Tours hosts this tour in partnership with BLDG 92.
Admission: $25/person (Click here to view schedule, purchase tickets and get information about bike rentals). Admission includes entertaining and knowledgeable tour guide, security escort, bicycle sweep, and a map.
Note: Tour begins at BLDG 92 forecourt.
