Questions about research

Q: Can I search BLDG 92's collection from home?
A:

Yes! A portion of BLDG 92's collection has been made available to the public under the Resource Center. Through our online database, BNY Collections, you can either search or browse a selection of BLDG 92's archival holdings. In this database you will find photographs, artifacts, documents, ephemeral materials and oral histories relating to the Brooklyn Navy Yard and its development through history. Also featured in BNY Collections is the full run of the Navy Yard Shipworker, a Brooklyn Navy Yard publication that ran from 1941 to 1966.

Q: How do I use the BNY Collections database?
A:

To conduct a simple search type your keyword into the search box in the upper right corner of the BNY Collections screen.  Items that match your keyword will return as a series of thumbnails with a brief title beneath. By hovering your mouse over the image you can view the full title and the item's collection ID.

You may also browse the collection more broadly by object type, date, era, subject, or location by choosing one of the buttons along the left-hand side of your screen, or by selecting "Browse the Collection" along the top navigation bar.

Q: Can I view BLDG 92's collection in person?
A:

BLDG 92's archival collection may be made available to serious scholars and researchers by appointment only. A researcher registration form must be completed before your appointment. Please contact collections@bldg92.org for further information.
